Bio:

Patrick Belaga is a cellist and composer from Washington DC.  His work heavily utilizes live improvisation with influences from global classical music traditions as well as jazz and folk traditions.  Much of his work exists in the dance, theater, and performance art realm, both in terms of composing scores and performing.  His most recent full length solo LP release is with the Berlin label, PAN, titled ‘Blutt’ (2021), in addition to a collaborative record ‘Sport of Love’ (2023, PAN) with Asma Maroof and Tapiwa Svosve.  He has presented commissioned and original work at museums/galleries and theaters internationally, including The Whitney Museum, MOCA Geffen, HAUBerlin, Schauspielhaus Zurich, Bonniers Konsthall Stockholm, SFMoMa, Schinkel Pavilion, and Donaufestival Austria.  In addition to his ongoing performance collaboration, ‘Moved by the Motion’, with artists Tosh Basco, Wu Tsang, Josh Johnson and Asma Maroof, he has also recently worked on a collaborative performance project with artists Jacolby Satterwhite and Nick Weiss, titled ‘PAT’.  Recent compositional work also includes the original score compositions for the Netflix documentary Gaga: Five Foot Two, Wig on HBO, Cypher (2023), and The Honey Trap (2024).
